The Game of Science Education
An accessible research in science education and authoritative approach to effective science teaching, this text is the work of 16 contributors who each employ a single metaphor that will resonate with readers --that science education can research in science education and should be considered an exciting game. With “ Windows Into the Classroom” personal accounts research in science education and “ The Game in Action” vignettes students are provided with practical applications throughout the book. Many contributors to this book were involved in the development research in science education and draft review of the National Science Education Standards, research in science education and therefore fully appreciate the importance of overtly linking research-based commentary research in science education and recommendations to the Standards. As a result, the entire work is steeped in a current research foundation tied closely to the National Science Education Standards. Features of this new text: “ Windows into the classroom” personal accounts research in science education and “ The Game in Action” vignettes provide practical applications throughout the book. Written in accessible first person accounts, each contributor takes a conversational approach that will appeal to a broad audience of readers. Introductions establishes the game metaphor that sustains the chapter research in science education and weaves throughout the book. Conclusions leaves the reader with upbeat research in science education and practical suggestions for effective science teaching. Author Biographies highligh the distinguished record of achievement of each contributor. Additional Resources at the end of each chapter provide suggestions of useful readings, websites, research in science education and other instructional instruments. Researchers, historians, research in science education and philosophers of science have debated the nature of scientific research in education for more than 100 years. Recent enthusiasm for "evidence-based" policy research in science education and practice in education -- now codified in the federal law that authorizes the bulk of elementary research in science education and secondary education programs -- has brought a new sense of urgency to understanding the ways in which the basic tenets of science are manifested in the study of teaching, learning, research in science education and schooling. Scientific Research in Education describes the similarities research in science education and differences between scientific inquiry in education research in science education and scientific inquiry in other fields research in science education and disciplines research in science education and provides a number of examples to illustrate these ideas. Its main argument is that all scientific endeavors share a common set of principles, research in science education and that each field -- including education research -- develops a specialization that accounts for the particulars of what is being studied. The book also provides suggestions for how the federal government can best support high-quality scientific research in education.
