Stratosphere - The stratosphere is a layer of Earth's atmosphere that is stratified in temperature, with warmer layers higher up and cooler layers farther down. This is in contrast to the troposphere near the Earth's surface, which is cooler higher up and warmer farther down.
Stratopause - The stratopause is the level of the atmosphere which is the boundary between two layers, stratosphere and the mesosphere. In the stratosphere the temperature increases with altitude, and the stratopause is the section where a maximum in the temperature occurs.
Ozone layer - The ozone layer, or ozonosphere, is that part of the Earth's stratosphere which contains relatively high concentrations of ozone (O3). "Relatively high" means a few parts per million, much higher than the concentrations in the lower atmosphere but still small compared to the main components of the atmosphere.
Mesosphere - The mesosphere (from the Greek words mesos = middle and sphaira = ball) is the layer of the Earth's atmosphere that is directly above the stratosphere and directly below the thermosphere. The mesosphere is located about 50-80/85km above Earth's surface.

The altitude of 100 kilometres or 62 miles is also frequently used as the boundary where atmospheric effects become noticeable during re-entry. In the United States, persons who travel above an altitude of 100 kilometres or 62 miles is also frequently used as the boundary where atmospheric effects become noticeable during re-entry. In the United States, persons who travel above an altitude of 50 miles (80 kilometres) are designated as astronauts.
